Getting Started with Proxies

Compare rotating residential, static ISP and datacenter proxies, then connect them in curl, Python, Playwright and antidetect browsers

VoyraCloud offers three types of IP proxies: rotating residential, static ISP and datacenter. This page helps you pick the right type, then shows how to connect common tools; purchase and console steps are on each product page.

Choosing by use case

  • Large numbers of unrelated requests spread across many IPs: choose rotating residential proxies with rotation set to each request.
  • Multi-step flows such as login, add-to-cart or form filling that need the same IP for a short time: choose rotating residential with sticky or timed rotation.
  • Accounts or stores that need a long-term fixed residential ISP exit, or an IP allowlist: choose static ISP proxies.
  • Cost-sensitive work where the target site does not block data center IPs: choose datacenter proxies.

When a residential IP server fits better

A proxy adds an exit to a machine you already have. If what you need is a server whose own public IP is residential (for example live streaming or remote desktops for multiple stores, where the whole machine is the unit), a residential IP server is more direct: the IP is bound to the server and no proxy configuration is needed.

If you already have a VoyraCloud Linux server and only want its outbound traffic to use a carrier IP, buy a static ISP proxy and deploy it to the VPS in one click.

Connection details

ProductProtocolAddressAuthentication
Rotating residentialHTTP127.0.0.1:18080None; only on the VPS where the gateway is installed
Rotating residentialSOCKS5127.0.0.1:18081None; only on the VPS where the gateway is installed
Static ISP / datacenterSOCKS5HOST:PORTUsername and password

Credentials for static ISP and datacenter proxies are viewed or exported in My static IPs; the export format is socks5://USERNAME:PASSWORD@HOST:PORT. If the username or password contains special characters, percent-encode them before putting them in a URI (the export file is already encoded).

For rotating residential proxies, first install the gateway. Exit country and rotation mode are set in the console; your program only needs the local port.

Code examples

Replace USERNAME, PASSWORD, HOST and PORT in the examples with the connection details from the console.

curl

Rotating residential:

# HTTP
curl -x http://127.0.0.1:18080 https://ipinfo.io/json

# SOCKS5
curl --proxy socks5h://127.0.0.1:18081 https://ipinfo.io/json

Static ISP / datacenter:

curl --proxy socks5h://USERNAME:PASSWORD@HOST:PORT https://ipinfo.io/json

socks5h makes the proxy resolve domain names as well, so lookups do not go through local DNS.

Python (requests)

SOCKS5 needs SOCKS support installed:

pip install "requests[socks]"

Rotating residential:

import requests

# HTTP port
proxy = "http://127.0.0.1:18080"
# or the SOCKS5 port
# proxy = "socks5h://127.0.0.1:18081"

resp = requests.get(
    "https://ipinfo.io/json",
    proxies={"http": proxy, "https": proxy},
    timeout=30,
)
print(resp.json())

Static ISP / datacenter:

import requests

proxy = "socks5h://USERNAME:PASSWORD@HOST:PORT"

resp = requests.get(
    "https://ipinfo.io/json",
    proxies={"http": proxy, "https": proxy},
    timeout=30,
)
print(resp.json())

Playwright (Python)

Rotating residential, using the local HTTP port:

from playwright.sync_api import sync_playwright

with sync_playwright() as p:
    browser = p.chromium.launch(proxy={"server": "http://127.0.0.1:18080"})
    page = browser.new_page()
    page.goto("https://ipinfo.io/json")
    print(page.text_content("body"))
    browser.close()

For multi-step flows such as login or add-to-cart, set the device's rotation mode to sticky or timed in the console so the IP does not change midway.

Static ISP / datacenter: Chromium does not support SOCKS5 proxies with a username and password. When running on a VoyraCloud Linux server, first deploy the IP to the VPS in one click so all outbound traffic goes through the proxy, and do not set proxy in Playwright:

from playwright.sync_api import sync_playwright

with sync_playwright() as p:
    browser = p.chromium.launch()
    page = browser.new_page()
    page.goto("https://ipinfo.io/json")
    print(page.text_content("body"))
    browser.close()

Antidetect browsers

Antidetect browsers and other proxy-capable software usually provide the following fields. Fill them in by product:

FieldRotating residentialStatic ISP / datacenter
Proxy typeHTTP or SOCKS5SOCKS5
Host127.0.0.1Host part of the address in the console
Port18080 (HTTP) or 18081 (SOCKS5)Port in the console
Username / passwordLeave emptyUsername and password in the console

Some software accepts a pasted socks5://USERNAME:PASSWORD@HOST:PORT; you can use the line from the export file.

The rotating residential local ports are only available on the machine where the gateway is installed, so the antidetect browser must run on the same machine, for example with both the gateway and the browser installed on a Windows server.

Acceptable use

Proxies must not be used for fraud, credential stuffing, attacks, scanning or activities that break local law, and credentials must not be resold or shared without written consent. See the Proxy Service Agreement for the full rules.
